Your eyes are as cool as silver-green leaves,
Your soul is as delicate as the petals of a white rose,
Yet strong as the ocean,
And your tears fall as exquisitely as drops of dew,
As precious as pearls,
And as rare,
You . . .
Your smile breaks the barren darkness,
As the sun lights up the dawn sky,
Your lips are sweeter than strawberries,
And your spirit flies high, as free as the wind,
Unbound by restraints,
Limited only by love,
And I . . .
Watch you from behind shadowed eyes,
Worshipping your perfection,
Content with my gifts, yet envious of your freedom,
Seeing the myriad shifts of pain in your soul,
Like light striking a tiger’s eyes,
Glinting and gleaming, from gold to brown,
And brown to gold,
And I . . .
Am gold to your silver,
The land of your sky,
Liquid light intertwined,
As are you and I.

I glance into your inscrutable face and smile
Not with my lips but deep in my eyes
As your hands capture my swaying hips
And pull me toward you
While white ribbons are snared in my hair
And laughing I pull them out
Freeing the long flowing curls
As I run into the setting sun
And I hear your thoughts as clearly as your pursuing footsteps
While I whirl and glare
And you cover my eyes with one hand and kiss me
Gently, while I lie frozen still
Like the hare before the wolf makes its kill
And let passion’s bright hot flames flare
While we stand alone
Bathed in summer’s fading light
And let the cool wind swirl around us
And I reach for your hand
While we walk slowly home.
