Israel Experience
My name is Rebekah James. I am a fourteen year old girl that made Aliyah on October 4, 2000. I came to Israel with my mother, my little brother, and my cat. My family and friends said I was crazy when I told them I wanted to come. But I'm not, I know exactly what I want. I enjoy life here. Each new thing brings me closer to this land than I ever was to America, and I can't explain exactly why.
I've known for the past two and a half years that I've wanted to be here. I feel that I belong here more than any place I've ever known. I feel like I even LOOK somewhat like the people here, if that's possible. I find it amazing how many people think that this beautiful country is all desert. If they would just take a minute to look, they would see that Israel if full of trees and flowers. As I sit in class, I look out the window, and I see rose bushes in full bloom, beautiful red and white and pink flowers sprouting up everywhere. I can eat huge, ripe, scarlet strawberries, and the biggest, juiciest oranges and grapefruits I've ever seen, in the middle of WINTER! How can anyone say that this land is all sand and wind and rock?
The people here are so interesting it's amazing. I sit on the bus on the way to my clarinet lesson once a week and I marvel at all the different people. It amazes me to try to figure out where everyone came from. I know someone who can speak, four languages, including English, Hebrew, and Hungarian. It boggles the mind to think that so many people, from SO many countries all came to this tiny country for almost the same reason. Because it is the Holy Land. It was given to us by Hashem, and so many people recognize that, but still, so many people don't.
I will keep Teen-To-Teen updated on my life here. If you want to contact me, I will be happy to talk with anyone, and compare experiences.
Yours,
Rebekah
