Hello Amber! I visited the Holocaust Museum in DC my freshman year in college (I'm a senior this year). In fact I am student teaching this semester and my lesson on Monday is going to be in memory of the Holocaust. I was browsing your web page (which is very nice) and I noticed you were talking about the shoes. I think they are one of the most disturbing reminders. The quotation you were talking about hit me the same way as it did you. It has stuck with me since that day and is one I will never forget. I think it is the most important message one can receive from the Holocaust.
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out
because I
was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did
not speak
out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and
I did
not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me, and there
was
no one left to speak for me."
