Reaction to "First Step" by Donnie in the June issue
Hey Donnie.
My name is Ayelet. I'm a
senior at high-school, live in the Shomron area, Israel, and am madly
in love with our country. You tell me to stand up and shout this,
which I believe is a good idea, so here's my stand and here's my shout
-- there is no way Israel can exist side by side with a "Palestinian"
(whatever that may be) state. Last thing we need is another
terror-supporting Arab dictatorship in the heart of our country.
I guess I might fall into your "right wing radicals" category, but I swear I'm not the Arab-hating, war-loving stereotype you have in mind. Living in Israel today is not easy (duh...), and we need all the support we can get. Let's make a pact: we in Israel will continue our lives here, take the everyday risks of sending our children on public buses, going to the malls, supporting the failing businesses in Tel Aviv, and filling the newly-deserted streets of Jerusalem with Jewish presence. All you need to do is understand that when you stand and scream that you're "pro-Palestinian state", you're supporting that terrorist that killed a teenage girl and left 20 people wounded earlier this week in Hertzelia, and endangering us.
Dear Ayelet:
This is why I stand for a Palestinian state. You like every other
person have the right to live without fear. You are just another
person that deserves this to exercise this right. The Palestinian
people do have this right as well. I speak of the people and not their
corrupted leadership. The people that have lived in the camps and
cities of Palestinian lands should be able to live in the same way
that you are privileged to live: in a life of freedom. I stand up for
the beauty of the democratic system in which you live. I will stand
for the establishment of a Palestinian state that stands for similar
democratic values. I feel that an article in the HaAretz newspaper
makes this statement very clearly - Pro Palestinian state while being
against the murderous Palestinian Authority. I do know that support-
monetary and physical - need to be given to the country that you and I
love. Wherever I stand, left right or center, I stand with Israel.
Though we disagree politically, I think that we see eye to eye on that
subject, that humans deserve to live in peace and security.
