Haven Or Hell
I have never been to the Mike's Place in Tel Aviv, But I've spent plenty a night at the Mike's Place in Jerusalem.
Mike's Place is pretty much an American pub with live music generally blues and Rock'N'Roll. It used to attract many tourists, now of course we have very little of those.
To me, Mike's has always been a place where I could get away, drink, shout, dance, laugh, forget about death, forget about life.
A haven from the hell we live in.
To some it is now a hell.
What more can I say that I haven't already said?
What more can I explain?
What more can I ask?
I feel despair and a growing feeling that this is our future. That soon, very soon, it will be a world wide reality. Death and loss for no real cause, but only the whim of man. As the song says, "If there is one thing you can say about mankind, there's nothing kind about man".
Should I ask again that you keep us in your mind?
Need I remind you again of the sorrow that comes with loss?
The panic, the helplessness, the worry.
Did not the whole world view the mass murder in the World Trade
Center?
Our friends' lives cut short.
Our friends in the hospitals.
There will be no more playing for them.
No more dancing for them.
And we?
We shall go out, we shall dance, laugh, drink and shout.
Until it is our turn.
For it will come won't it?
It can be tomorrow, when I get on the bus to go back home.
It can be my friends as they go out to buy a present, or send a
letter. It can be anyone of us. This is our future, and only we can
change it.
