(For the Kids of New Orleans)

by Ronee Goldman

A kid should have something nice.
A kid should have a little spice.
A kid should have something near.
A kid should have one little deer.
A kid should have something they want.
A kid should have a big croissant.
A kid should have a needle or two.
A kid should have one piece of stew.
A kid should have parents to play in the snow.
A kid should have someone to know.
A kid should have cranberry juice.
A kid should have one little moose.
A kid should have a home to sleep in.
A kid should have something to eat in.
A kid should have a friend or two.
A kid should have somebody to tie their shoe.
A kid should have a finger or two.
A kid should have a whatzamagoo.
A kid should have one little joy.
A kid should have one little boy.
A kid should have a neighbor.
A kid should have a paper.
A kid should have a brush.
A kid should have nuts.
A kid should have some presents or more.
A kid should have a number like four.
A kid should have a dad who’s asleep.
A kid should have one little peep.
A kid should have a teacher that’s good.
A kid should have only one little nudge.
A kid should have chocolate.
