One Small Candle

by Alex

When the world was first created, one candle was set alight,
Exalted above all nations to illuminate the dark night.
The Kindler lit this special flame with a mission so unique,
Accepting the covenant and the Torah brought the nation to its peak.
From then on their mission was to preserve their bright flame,
Follow His ways, keep His laws, and exalt His holy name.

As time went on and the world around them grew dark,
They had to sustain their candle which began from just one spark.
Through horror, persecution, and times of rough,
Leaving the world to fade simply was not enough.
As nation after nation tried to put out their light,
They persisted in their ways, in doing what was right.
Though at times waning low, they miraculously shined through,
And lit up the whole world, remaining loyal and true.

For all it takes to bring light to the world is but one small candle,
It is difficult for us to complete, but not impossible to handle.
Our world can be seen as dark as dark can be,
But each one of us has the power to set that darkness free.
By sticking to our values, our beliefs, and our laws we proclaim,
That we forever want to keep our single candle aflame.

And forever will the candle of our nation,
Shed light upon all creations.
Because we will live up to our obligations,
And exceed all expectations.

Bringing light to a world, that is otherwise dark.
