Jewish Boy in Morocco

by Jeremy Benloulou

Children of Abraham... It was such a great experience! When I first heard of CoA, I was still in Morocco, and my history teacher told us about it. As soon as I heard about it, I decided I wanted to be part of it. The problem that is happening between the Israeli and Palestinians has affected many people around the world, notably Jews in Arab countries.

As I started taking pictures, I wanted to see what kind of pictures other people had taken. This project brought me to the biggest mosque in Morocco, to Jewish schools, to synagogues and several other places. I took pictures of a Brith Mila in which my grandfather is seen holding my newborn cousin. Children of Abraham was a great experience because it brought young Jews, Muslims, and Christians to give their opinion on what was happening in the Middle East. I was able to express my thoughts and have a discussion with people of other religions and other countries to find out more about what they thought. I also told other people in CoA how my life as a Jewish boy in Morocco was a great experience with very little to no problems.

With CoA, we were able to express ourselves not only with words but with pictures too. Through my pictures, I was trying to show the general lifestyle of a Jewish boy in Morocco.

CoA was a great experience for me, and I plan to stay an intern as long as I can.
