Yaffa
David Ben Gurion once said, "Israel has created a new image of the Jew in the world - the image of a working and an intellectual people." For this reason and many more, I, Yaffa Fredrick, feel passionately for Israel. Watching countless of my friends make aliyah only serves to heighten my desire to be there. Aside from my obvious Israel interest, I enjoy making memory candles, even though I am 17 and long past the bat mitzvah stage. Gorging on fig newtons is a favorite past-time of mine. And writing is near and dear to my heart. I write for my school newspaper and various online publications such as Young People's Press, Poetry Zone, etc. I am editor of my school literary magazine, and I was just voted editor of the senior yearbook. Feel free to e-mail me about your Israel connection or your pyromaniac tendencies...

Michelle
Hi! My name is Michelle Faerber and I am 19 years old. I attended a private girls school in the greater New York area. Though the beauty and significance of Israel was emphasized, I found it difficult to develop a love of land I had never glimpsed. As editor of my high school yearbook, I was asked to write a piece about the land. Thus, I wrote about the only subject that evoked perceptions of my foreign homeland: the terrorism shredding her apart. Luckily, having the privilege to study there for an entire year after high school left me not only with visions of the land, but also a kinship. The people, the culture, and the inherent beauty of Israel inspired me, elevating even the mundane moments to sublime experiences. Now that I am a student in college, I struggle to keep the connection alive. I enjoy reading and writing and keeping up to date with the news and events of Israel. I also pray daily for the safety of my people and attempt to open people's eyes to what is transpiring. I like speaking to people about my experience in Israel and encourage them to visit and see the country for themselves. |

Smadar
My name is Smadar S., I am 15 years old, and I am a sophomore in a private, all-girls Jewish High School. I was born in Israel, but I currently reside in New York. I enjoy writing and reading. In fact, I write for my school's newspaper, I work on many school journals throughout the years, and I am also a journalist for "The Jewish Week", a newspaper in New York. One of my favorite things to do is to teach people about the land of Israel and how important it is to me. I love to talk about the Israeli soldiers, and to show everyone how hard they are working so that we may have a home to go back to. In school, I make special videos for Yom Hashoa and Yom Hazikaron. I like to spend my time doing something meaningful, and during the summer, I work in a camp to bring Jewish children closer to Judaism. My whole family is in Israel, and anything that has to do with Israel is important to me. |
Lila
Hey! My name is Lila R. I'm a 15 year old living in Maryland, right outside of DC. I go to Walter Johnson HS. I love Israel and have been 9 times with my family, including a 6-month stay. I hope to make aliyah in the near future. I am also a competitive swimmer and an active member of Seaboard USY. I like to make new friends, so feel free to send me an e-mail.

Alex
Alex p. grew up in the large and diverse Jewish community of Baltimore, MD.
Alex writes,"It's a great place to go to meet new people, and hang out with kids who you wouldn't normally get to spend time with. There is often a lot of tension between kids who go to different schools, and different shuls (synagogues), but most of the time the differences are resolved, and when the different "groups" give each other a chance, they realize that they are really good friends and they have so much to learn from each other." |
Hayah
Hi! My name is Hayah and I fulfilled my dream when I moved to Israel
four years ago with my family. I am starting my second year of sherut leumi in
a month and I'm looking forward to getting back to my job! I teach
Judaism in non-religious schools all over Jerusalem. In addition to my work I am
also involved with debating. A competitive debater myself, I now coach
the Jerusalem workshop and weekly meeting.
