The Day Amona Bled
by Hayah Goldlist with Nehama Libman
This time, there was no mercy. In an ironic twist of historical fate, the longtime faithful followers of Jabotinsky's ideals were met with his very own iron wall.
It is time to take a long hard look at our nation and try to put the pieces back together again.
We have become a nation so filled with internal hatred that it threatens to overwhelm even our very serious exterior threats.
Children once scared of terrorist infiltrators are now afraid of their own soldiers evicting them from their homes.
Young men and women once proud to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces, fighting to protect their nation, are now forced to turn on their brothers.
Adults who remember our numerous victories against our unfriendly neighbors now realize that no Jew will feel victorious at the conclusion of this battle.
With the blood still moist on the soil of Amona, I turn to you with Jewish tears trickling down my cheeks.
Is this what Israel is about?
Moving to Israel was the most important step in my life, but this is not what I came for. I did not come to live in a state where the government gives orders for the cavalry to beat upon teenage civilians. And I did not come to live amongst a people who throw rocks and bricks at their police. I did not come for bloodshed and I will not stand for it.
And so, my question to you, children of Israel, is a simple one. Do you stand with me?
Are we willing to turn our backs against each other or do we choose to unite?
Are we to betray our brothers as we did to Yosef so many years ago, or do we stand strongly together as we did for Binyamin?
Are you willing to give up on the unity of this nation, or will you work to end this bloody battle between brothers?
I know what I choose.
