First of all I think that Hogwarts will reopen under the guidance of Professor McGonagall. As Professor Sprout had said (b.6 p.627): “I feel that if a single pupil wants to come, then the school ought to remain open for that pupil”. Harry, Ron and Hermione, however, will not return to school but leave for greater adventures. It’s known from the end of b.6 that Harry doesn’t plan to return to Hogwarts. Ron and Hermione will follow Harry out of school in order to assist him. Although Harry will not continue to attend Hogwarts, he will return to the school in order to speak to with the portrait Dumbledore which hangs in the headmaster’s office, even though he is dead.
Dumbledore’s younger brother, Aberforth, may play an important role. I think that Aberforth is the owner of “Hog’s Head” in Hogsmeade. Dumbledore had said once that his brother was “odd” (b.5), and Harry had once witnessed (in the pensive) that when Voldemort was surprised that Dumbledore knew there were Death-Eaters waiting for him in a “local pub” (note: Hog’s head), Dumbledore had simply replied “I’m merely friendly with the barman” (b.6 p.445). Aberforth may be a keeper of some relevant information which may assist Harry in his search for the horcruxes.
What will Harry do if he doesn’t return to Hogwarts? This question is answered at the end of b.6: Harry will return to the Dursleys accompanied by Ron and Hermione and stay there until he turns 17, when the ancient magic protecting him at the Durselys ceases to exist. Harry will attend Bill and Fleur’s wedding before leaving to Godric’s Hollow and his parents’ graves as a result of his “feeling I need to go there” (b.6 p.651). Ginny will temporarily leave the scene, but will return towards the end of the book to assist Harry in some way. As for Ron and Hermione, the time has come for them to finally be together as a couple in b.7.
Harry’s goal in the seventh book is to track down all seven Horcruxes and destroy them before hunting down the last piece of Voldemort’s soul which is the soul inside his body. According to Dumbledore in b.6 the Horcruxes are: 1) Riddle’s diary- destroyed by Harry in b.2. 2) Slytherin’s ring- destroyed by Dumbledore in b.6. 3) Slytherin’s locket- destroyed by R.A.B. another mystery yet to be solved. In think that R.A.B is none else than Regulus A. Black, Sirius Black’s younger brother who died a death-eater around the time Harry was born. According to Sirius, Regulus died when trying to back out from Voldemort (b.5). Proof to this is that Slytherin’s locket was found in the Ancient House of Black, and was thrown out:” they found a heavily symboled locket that none of them could open” (b.5 p.116). 4) Hufflepuff’s cup. 5) Some object of Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. I think that Harry will find a Horcrux of Gryffindor in Godric’s Hollow since there is a similarity between the name “Godric Gryffindor” and “Godric’s Hollow”. 6) Soul in Voldemort’s body. 7) Harry’s scar.
The most important information about the seventh book is the fact that Harry’s scar is a Horcrux. According to Dumbledore in b.6, when Voldemort went to kill Harry he was still one Horcrux short, and he meant to use Harry’s death to make his seventh Horcrux. Voldemort never planned to kill Harry’s parents, but they stood in his way. Consequently Voldemort used Lily’s death, instead of Harry’s, and he put the last Horcrux in Harry, which caused the scar. Voldemort probably thought that no one would ever suspect a piece of his soul to be in a baby, and furthermore no one would hurt Harry in the future because of his fame and importance. Harry’s unique connection with his mother throughout the books is greatly emphasized, and in b.7 the connection will strengthen if possible because not only did Lily die to save Harry, but her death was used to conjure the Horcrux in Harry’s body.
Voldemort’s soul being in Harry explains many questions about the similarity between the two. Similarity in behavior and in abilities such as the speech of Parseltongue and in Harry reading Voldemort’s mind and vise versa. “He transferred some of his powers to you the night he gave you that scar” (Dumbledore b.2 p.333). Notice that the Death-Eaters are always instructed not to kill Harry but leave him for the Dark Lord. Voldemort probably doesn’t want Harry killed yet because he knows that killing Harry will destroy one of his Horcruxes.
Due to the uncontrollable connection between Harry and Voldemort, Harry will be left no choice and he will eventually have to sacrifice himself in order to destroy Voldemort. This means that in the end both Harry and Voldemort will die. Harry will save the world but will not live to see the change.
The last question that must be answered is about the true identity of Snape. In my opinion, Snape is still loyal to Dumbledore. In b.6 p.405, Hagrid describes an argument between Snape and Dumbledore: ”Snape saying Dumbledore took too much for granted, and that he didn’t want to do it any more”. This argument is never mentioned again or paid any attention to. I think that this argument is essential to discovering Snape’s true identity. I think that Snape killed Dumbledore on Dumbledore’s orders, and they were arguing about the task. Dumbledore knew he needed to move out of the way so that Harry will step forward and finish Voldemort once and for all. Harry had always been protected by those who loved him, his parents, Sirius, and Dumbledore. But now the last of his protectors is gone, and finally Harry feels ready to face the world on his own.
In conclusion, the Harry Potter books are like a puzzle put together piece by piece. Up to now we’ve put together the body of the puzzle, the background and the basic information. The seventh book will be the pieces which complete the picture and give it a glossy look. For me, the Harry Potter books are more than just a puzzle; they are books about friendship, family, loyalty, emotions, bravery, and so much more.
