You and Your Bread
Ask Tamar - the Nutritionist:
Y.B. asks: I heard that bread is fattening. Is that true?
Answer: There are two parts to the question: First -- bread: Bread belongs to the carbohydrate food group. Other foods in this group: rice, pasta, oatmeal, potato, corn, quinoa, cornflakes among others. Carbohydrates are the fuel of the body and must be eaten every day to supply energy. The healthiest choices are whole grains, such as whole wheat bread and brown rice. Second -- fattening: The term "fattening" is not meaningful.
Good nutrition is like a puzzle with many small pieces fitting together to make a complete picture. If one or more pieces are missing----- then the picture is incomplete. The best way to provide good nutrition to your body is to eat from all of the food groups-- proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the correct amount.
