![]() In this section you will find: Teen's DayI am writing to you to see if you guys are willing to help me make a "Teen's Day." I'm sure you know how there's a "Mother's Day" and a "Father's Day" (of course you do), but there's no "Teen's Day" - ever wonder why? Doesn't surprise me, though. I mean, seeing how most of us teens are discriminated today by "adults" because of the clothes we wear, or the music we listen to. In dedication to those who died on April 20th, almost 2 months ago, due to the high school shooting in Colorado, and to those that had to witness such a tragedy, I think there should be a "Teen's Day." I know what you're probably thinking: "Ok, this person just wants a day off of school and a day where teens can go running around buck wild." That's not what this is. This is beyond that. It's more than just about a "Teen's Day." It's about teens not getting the attention they NEED, about teens not getting equal rights, about us teens being seen as "little gangsters/thugs/troublemakers," or whatever adults may see us as, who just cause trouble nowadays. I thought it'd be nice if there was a "Teen's Day." We wouldn't have school off. Since it would be a day dedicated to those who died in the Colorado high school shooting, I think the "Teen's Day" should be held on April 20th of every year. There shall be activities on that day: I was thinking that maybe every middle (Junior high) and high school in the U.S. (I don't think this would go international - who knows - I don't even think it'll come true in the U.S.) could hold an assembly with a popular celebrity (someone that's well known with teens) as a guest speaker. They'd come in and talk to us about violence. Of course, that'll be after the fair. What fair might you ask? Well, besides having an assembly with a celebrity speaker, I was thinking of an outside (P.E. field) fair. The fair will be made up of several things. The main point would be the stands that would offer specific information on all the kinds of teen problems today (Example: there'd be different stands that'd offer information and brochures about different teen problems: depression, drug/alcohol addiction, suicide, abuse, violence, eating disorders, peer pressure, etc.) Behind the stands there'd be 2 or 3 people that would be able to give MORE information and answer any questions students might have. What do you think so far? No, I'm not insane, but I do believe and hope that maybe you guys can help me make this come true. In the fair, there could also be carnival games and of course food. Not carnival rides.. but games. You know, the kind of games they have at carnivals that you can win little prizes. Student volunteers will think of creative game stands for the rest of the students. They could be used to raise money for the school. Now, the games wouldn't be anymore than a dollar or so.. we're not rich you know. Well, I thank you for taking your time to hear me out. Maybe now you'll take the time to help me make this happen. I want to give you guys something to think about as I conclude this letter: I was watching the news recently and I saw something about the anti-stalking law. It was passed when someone was murdered by a stalker. Then I remembered how the school board of Miami Dade County Public Schools (DCPS) has decided to close the campuses of all schools for lunch (which I do not agree with. Then again I don't agree with a lot of rules with the DCPS school board), due to the murder of a high school girl in her apartment when she was out for lunch. I said to my friends, "It takes someone to die in order for a law to be made.. in order for someone to take a stand." - Why does it have to be like that?
