Dear Sammy
I made aliya in February this year, I came from Cape Town, South
Africa. Our Jewish community there is about 14,000. All the Dati
people know each other, and we got together all the time. I came
to Israel twice during High school before I made aliya. I think that it
was important for me to complete High school in South Africa. You
are in your second last year of school and it's a hard move to leave
your home and get used to a new school system, never mind make
new friends. You don't need those hassles now, finish school and
then come here.
As far as making aliya by yourself is concerned ,it is hard, but yet
not impossible, I did it and now I'm loving it. I was very lucky that
the Aliya Department of the Jewish Agency in South Africa
prepared me very well, so it was pretty easy. I don't know what the
situation is like there, but if you don't have anything like that there,
I'm sure it's possible to send you all the required information. Do
you know what you want to do when you come here, because it's
very important to know what you want to do after Ulpan or Mechina,
there are many different absorption programmes for students and
you should try find out about them first.
I hope this answers some of you questions, please feel free to ask
us here at TTT anything else that you are unsure about, after all we
are all Jewish Teens who care about each other.
